Dude if you fill them with expanding foam before screwing them on that won't happen.

Love that comment, even with my Fram "toughguard" on my xj right now. It's raining but I'm bored and I'm gonna try some mobile 1 high mileage (full synthetic) with a wrench off k&n filter. I think im gonna go with 10w-30, then when it gets colder, I usually use 5w-30. I'm thinking of doing a tune up too, I hear the plain old champion coppers work best, how are the champion double platnium? I wish champion made wires and caps too so I could use all champion stuff... I hear Bosch wires and caps are good? How are the duralast wires and caps?

5w30 is fine all year. No need to make things complicated and buy two different kinds.

The K&N unit is a big rip off. It is a Mobil1 filter with a nut on it. If you want fancy, just get an M1-204 (OE spec) or M1-301 (oversized). You shouldn't be putting filters on any more than hand-tight.

Champion double plats have mixed reception here. Copper for guaranteed performance. Incidentally I have Champion brass cap and rotor on my '99, though I picked up NGK wires. They're numbered! NGK copper plugs also do very well. Feel free to experiment with double platinums, but copper will always give you guaranteed performance. IMO in a 4.0 you should be checking your plugs more frequently than every 900000000 miles anyway (or whatever the selling point is on the double platinums)

I agree with the other response. You can use 0W-30 for easier startups and less startup wear year-round. Mobil 1 is an excellent product, as are many other full synthetic oil products. Mobil 1 full syn was on sale at Wally-World for $22.49 on Saturday. Dunno if it still is or not.

I just did a tune-up with an Accel cap and rotor and Bosch copper plugs. I just pulled my NGK V-power copper plugs. They were light tan in color and gapped out at .045 after two-and-a-half years of use with no maintenance. They did well and I was impressed. I'm still using my Napa/Belden 7mm wires, and may go with an MSD coil and wires before too long. I also replaced my O2 sensor two days ago. The Jeep is running its best for as long as I've had it!

What do you think of those expensive Bosch filters that they sell at wally world? Are they good for a 10,000 mile interval?

The wal-mart here has all the Frams, some budget Purolators, Bosch extended performance, and a few Mopars. They're carrying so many motor oils now that it's an entire aisle. They've even got some Royal Purple here...

I got champion copper plus, duralast wireset (model specific, not universal) and a duralast cap (model specific, not universal) how do you thi k she'll do? I just changed my oil and put in pennzoil 10w-30 conventional (yellow bottle, 5qt jug and a 1qt jug) filter is a Fram tg16 (apparently the best Fram filter there is) (which can't be good anyways bc is a Fram...) how do you think I'll do? I think it had 5w30 before so should I expect more ticks and noises at start because of the thicker oil? I was going To get Mobil one high mileage full synthetic 10w30 But AutoZone didn't have it in the 5 quart jug only in the one quart jugs. They had 5qt jugs of it in 5w30 (which I should've used...) how do you think she will be with all of this?
Thanks

I think you need the rhodium tipped plugs for that.

I have no opinion on the double platinums as I never use them in this motor, but the single-platinums are asking for trouble in a waste spark ignition like the later years with coil rails have.

Yes Champion/BWD C271 for the brass cap and D228 for the rotor.

What heavier weight oil? You'll be fine.

The Tough-Gard series of filters looks okay. Still find it hard to trust FRAM after how truly awful their low-end is. Run a WIX or NAPA Gold for dependable quality. (http://www.minimopar.net/oilfilters/...html#fram-tg8a)

Nah just put a K&N sticker on it.

The 10W oil will be thicker on startup so give it a few extra minutes to warm up when you can before taking off.

I noticed it has a lot more of the usual 4.0 noises now. Most likely because its plain old pennzoil, not the 5w30 t5 rotella that was in it before... I was going to buy mobile 1 high mileage full synthetic, but autozone only had it in 5w30, (which I now know is better for my 4.0) they didn't have it in the 10w30 I was looking for. I'm better educated on oil now...

If you have a wal mart with an automotive section, they've got a helluva selection... The synthetics will help your engine run better. Have you read Motor Oil University on bobistheoilguy.com?
