There are a LOT of different materials in the engines... not just bearings... but rings, cylinder walls, LIFTERS, cam materials, rocker arms, push rods... heck, just think of crank cases! most now days are aluminum or even ABS.

that has absolutely nothing to do with oil and wear

a set of forged 4340 H-beam rods and OEM cast steel rods will be exactly the same from the oil's perspective.

That was sarcasm. After all of this I think I'll just stick to what I know works or try different setups and make my own opinion. Im beginning to see that this is all just personal opinions. If YOU feel like 3000 is enough then by all means change your oil. If you want to push it then that's fine too.

Thought this was a good link worth sharing when comparing oil filters.. I see the minimopar one often but just stumbled upon this one when I was researching oversized oil filters..

Does anyone else use the Napa part #: 1773?? I called Napa and they said it was a gold filter but everything I can find shows that its a silver?? any input would be appreciated..

Folks,

don't hate me too much here, was just evesdropping on this thread,

here is my take on all of this......

I currently run and have been running the Fram filter and the Valvoline 10w-40 since I bought the jeep. I have 265,000 mile and no failure internally etc. ever. Also I have been going between 5k and 8k between oil changes.. we are talking 20 years of this process and the only thing I have seen with ol red is a sludge (minor, due to number of miles) build up in head/valve train area.....this cleaned out great with a seafoam treatment. She is still strong and runs great, think it has to do with paying attention to the things that crop up...and keeping up on maintenance

I truly think its personal preference as to oil/air filter and oil type combo which gives you the personal satisfaction for keeping your vehicle running the way you like.

I would also like to point out that everyone here has been extremely helpful in situations I may not have been clear on and am greatly appreciative!

sooooo long story short, I use FRAM filter and Valvoline oil.

my two cents,,,,,

The tough guard filters are their only decently constructed filter.

1773 is a good number, but it is showing to fit large diesel and big block V8 engines. Napa Silver filters always start with a 2* prefix.

Example: 1515 Gold is an older ford oil filter. 21515 is the same filter, but in the Silver line.

I work at a Napa in KY. Thats how we do it here, anyway.

Hey Makarov,

The 1773 is a oversized filter for the 4.0, it is intended for the big body Ford trucks. Since you work @ Napa can you verify the 1773 is gold or silver(i know you said all silvers start with a 2 but) when I pull the 1773 up on WIX or Napa filter search it says it has a paper element and I thought the gold line had a synthetic element. I also want to make sure I getting the silicone ADBV. Thanks

Just kind of an observation I've had that I find kind of funny. Most people posting on this thread think the Fram filters are the scum of the earth. While they are an inferior filter, I don't really think they're as bad as people here would want you to believe. I say this because of economics. What filters are probably by far the most available at the most stores around the country? Fram! If they all failed and junked everyone's engines, people wouldn't buy them and stores wouldn't carry them. Thing is people buy A LOT of them, so it's profitable for stores like Menards, Walmart etc. that have an automotive section to carry them. Go into about any big chain store that has an automotive section and you're going to find Fram in about 98% of them I think. Just some food for thought.
