Isn't there a certain amount ( about 1/2 quart ) that stays up in the oil filter, and you lose this when you remove the filter.
Just did two oil changes, let the oil drain for over an hour on both, 'cause I walked away and got distracted by another job. Anyway went back and saw the oil was finished draining so I went to remove the filters. Sure glad I put a drip pan under the filter because there was a quite a bit of oil that came out of both.
If that's not normal, I got a problem!

I used to use the Purolator Pure One filters and they are great. I don't think you can do much better but I love RP all the way around so I'm using their filters in all my cars now.
Replace the filter and then check the oil, add as needed.
I run a WIX filter in my '06 WK with Royal Purple and have never had a problem. I do change the oil every 6,000 miles though.

WCupp, are you running a oil that will need a extended oil change interval?? if you are changing the oil every 3k-5k miles you will be fine without using the RP specific filter.. I really believe from what I have gathered is that filter is really meant to go for 10K+ OCI's... Just some food for thought..
To answer your question though read the beginning of this thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/roy...-filter-76493/ I posted a cross reference sheet and the filter # for oversized..
