I'm not a huge fanboy, I use the cheapest oil I can find for my drag car. Why waste extra $$ if the oil gets changed every 12-15 passes. I've read a lot about using the shell oil, and I have no problem doing it. I just have about 20 more gallons of Mobil 1 to use lol

If you're shelling out already for Mobil 1 pick up Mobil Delvac 1 ESP, save you from adding the zinc additive.
If you're not a fanboy to the brand take a look at Shell Rotella T6. I'm working on a giant post right now all about engine oil and have compared 24 oils, probably going to add more. Stay tuned to OEM Tech sometime this week (I hope!).

I use it in all my bikes and come next oil change in my Jeep too. Out of all the different brands and types T6 is definitely my favorite and its readily available most places. Its also nice to be able to justify buying in bulk during a sale because I use it in everything. Obviously motorcycles are different than cars but my Yamaha 175 calls for 10W-30 and when I switched to T6 5W-40 I saw these improvements, easier starting, smoother clutch articulation and shifting, quieter engine overall, and I've noticed that the engine as a whole seems to operate better, so far it hasn't caused any problems because of the different weight.
good to see your going to get a elbow adapter.. i swapped over to the 51515 filter and rotella 15w40... but when temps started to dip out here into the 20's... i got a little nervous and drained and filled with mobile1 10w30 and a mobile 1 m1-301 filter...
strange thing is that 51515 was HEAVY even after i let it drain out... worried me for a bit... but i guess its just the soaked media.. (i hope)
It probably wasn't going to hurt anything.. but just gives me the warm and fuzzy on a cold crank you know?
I might even swap over to the delvac or t6...but the zinc worries me with catalytic converters... I did some reading on this.. and it just bugs me..

The 51515 is a cellulose media filter with a quality anti drainback valve. It's retaining oil and dirt like it's supposed to. I would not recommend using any filter that is not appreciably heavier after it's removed.
Regarding catalyst poisoning this is a non-issue. Most of today's mixed-fleet oils have the same or less phosphorous (zinc isn't what kills cats) than the oils specified when the XJs were designed and sold. Yes the cat won't last as long as it will on a low-phosphorous SM or SN oil but it certainly won't be worse than the original specification.
Since most of us here use cheap high-flow cats and the emissions tests our old Jeeps have to meet are pretty sloppy in the first place I don't see any issue. However if you have a 2000+ with the mini-cats I can definitely see this as a concern and would not recommend dumpin in whatever fleet oil without research. Those guys are EGGspensive.
