Oil Cap
Hello- First post on the forum after my daughter bought her first car: an '01 XJ Limited. (She loves it by the way!)
Been reading threads for the last week in order to try and address a few issues. I've already found some good info, such as the power-window issues (likely broken wires in drivers side door) she seems to have.
One thing I haven't seen addressed is a sticking oil cap. When the engine is hot, the oil cap binds in the valve cover, and won't come out. If I really lean on it, the "ratcheting" mechanism (designed to prevent overtightening, like a gas cap) just gives way and the handle portion turns, but the threads stay stuck. If I let it cool down, then I can remove it.
Anybody else have this happen, or any ideas of why so tight?
I'm thinking of just getting a "solid" reaplcement cap. Anybody know if the size/threads on oil caps are standard?
Any recommendations of online vendors with good prices for these rigs?
Thanks.

They're 7.79 on Spamazon. Google "jeep 4.0 oil cap". Plenty of other options. Clean the threads in the valve cover, then if a new cap still gets stuck you probably have a bent/warped valve cover.
Sounds like there aren't different sizes for the caps then... good.
Jeepride - Indteresting thing on hers is that if you yank the cover part off, the threaded body is a "hollow" concave section... nothing really to grab on to to get it out.
Thanks for the replies.
