Never and I mean Never hit a mud puddle to fast. My 1st time out I hit what I thought was a little puddle at 30 mph and blew connecting rods through the oil pan. Ended up being a 4 ft deep crater. Costed me about $2500 after all was said and done. When in doubt put it in park and put a stick in it or turn around. All the other advice is great youve been given. Watch out for water puddles.
just a couple things i picked up
- Always go with a buddy
-Its a good idea to install a CB so you can communicate with the other trucks
-Know your limitations...nothing is worse then getting stuck in muddy water and flooding your cabin
-Recovery equipment whether it be a winch or tow strap...just make sure someone has something.
-And when you decide to go through mud make sure you turn on your windshield wipers as high as they go so you can see

Learned that one the hard way 2 weeks ago ! Went into a pudle that was suposed to be about 1 feet deep(so my friend told) but it was more like 4 feet. So i started to go in the puddle and then it dipped and the water got really deep and then the water started going over the hood ... and then engine stalled because water got in the airbox. Then the water started coming inside the jeep and the jeep would not start again, Then the water was above the speaker in the doors Finally it started again and I manage to get out in reverse.
I changed the air filter (it was wet) and the oil and it stills runs like a champ... So what I learned dont trust your friends lol and check it out yourself
