odd problem that fixes itself with a restart....

Default odd problem that fixes itself with a restart....

now keep in mind my Jeep is cruiser54 certified... I have done refreshing of grounds... did everything in his threads so heres the problems.... iy has been raining a lot tonight... 1st time this started happening...,i lost my radio..power radio annte.... wipers and turning signals.... EVerything else still works including the hazzard button... now if i turn the car off and restart it everything comes back... like nothing is wrong...
any thoughts on this? and if i hit the wipers or the turn signals everything goes out... until i restart the car...

Which I agree it likely is. Add a bit of extra current and *poof* until you re-start

Where is it located? How do i remove it? and is there any brand I should use or are they all the same??? Thank you

Yep. The switch is mounted on top of the steering column under the dash. It's connected to the key tumbler by a rod. The big brown or blue wire will be toasty looking and the connector likely melted a bit. Be sure to spruce up that terminal when replacing the switch.

Local parts store is probably as good as anywhere else. The problem is the switch is marginal to begin with, as it ages the contacts develop a bit of resistance. That generates heat, which causes more oxidation and more resistance, which increases the heat.... it isn't unusual to find the plug melted when they fail.

Poor design from General Motors who designed and supplies the switch. With all the work you've done on grounds and upgrades, I doubt it will happen to ou again.

That'd be a first, no?

If the contacts in that switch are rated for 5 amps max, you can bet they have 5 amps on them. Or 5.05 amps. No problem.."it'll last through the warranty".

Ok, so using accessories kills off all the other accessories.
Is this a top symptom of a failed ignition switch?
What are the others?

ok what is the best way to replace this part?... they had it in stock... and i had to get one for a tilt wheel... it makes a difference... wish me luck... doesn't look like there is a lot of room to work but i guess we shall see..

You can always unbolt the column & drop it down if you have to.
