Default odd noise please help...

I have just bought a 98 cherokee 2.5 diesel and its great but it makes an odd noise when moving,,,it sounds like a low/dull rumbling noise sounds like its coming from front left hand side drivers side in the United States passenger side here.
After reading various posts on here I have checked wheel bearings and all feels tight.....Any help would be much appreciated....Its done 120k miles..
When I say checked I jacked it up and tried to wobble/check for any slack/play and it felt ok, it definately sounds like a dull bearing noise....
Thanks for reading...Confused of England....

Default weird noise

After much head scratching and all day under the car and searching this fantastic site I have found a leak from the rear diff. The underside of the car just above the diff seal is soaked with oil if I am correct I imagine one or more bearings are shot in which case any guidance on a rebuild or any advice on what next?????Thanks

Is the noise in the front or rear? Either way it sounds like an axel bearing is failing. For the leak in the rear, pull the cover, clean off all old gasket material, put it back on with a good rtv sealant, don't forget to re-fill with gear oil.

Default odd noise

Thanks for getting back.
I have removed the diff casing and drained the oil it looks ok and I did the best I could to look for play and it all seems ok..I then dislocated the prop shaft at the rear diff end and the bearing one one end is shagged (about one millimetre of play) do you think this could be my problem..IE rumble noise etc...also if I have a leaky oil seal would that not indicate excessive play in a bearing??????? but it felt tight to me????????confused......
