Cool Odd brake problem

Hi,

I've got a 96 Cherokee 2.5TD (I'm in UK so some parts may be swapped over...?)

My front right brake caliper keeps sticking on... not fully, about 50% braking..

But anything more than a mile drive and the brakes getting hot (obviously...)

When I stop the engine, there is a small aluminium block in the engine bay which buzzes. In my UK car it is (as from front) on the left side, near the suspension tops. (USA may be right side because of master cylinder?)

I've scribble a diagram...

Any idea what this is? is it my ABS causing trouble?

I can't find a diagram about this anywhere, and my nearest jeep dealers are f'ing miles away....

thanks ...

JH

We have very few RHD vehicles and even less Diesels but that does sound like an ABS buzzer. Replace the entire caliper as the piston has warped the cylinder bore with it's dragging on your pads. That should solve the dragging brake problem and possibly the buzzer as well.

thanks,

the strange thing is, is that the brake dragged like this about 12 months ago.
I had a garage look at it (I was miles away from home and they were about to shut...!!)

They took the calipers and pads off, cleaned it out, and its been fine for the last 4000 miles, then started again...

I wouldn't have thought that a warped cylinder would be fine for that long then start again...??

I was wondering if it was the "buzzer" causing the dragging, not the dragging causing the buzzing?

if it's abs, buzzing is normal, but should only be intermittent.

x2 on replacing the caliper, they're cheap. but i'd replace both and either replace the rotors or at least get them turned. new pads too.

and put lots of grease on the sliders.
