Default ODD 4X4 ACTION?

Hi everyone: I'm new and I have a question concerning my 4 wheel drive. We got about a inch of snow, so I decided to put my cherokee in parttime. By the way I have 235/75 15 wranglers/stock(no lift) and a command-trac transfer case. I also have a factory limited slip rear axle. Well I went down the road about a quarter of mile and the system sent me sideways. I regained control and shifted out of 4-hgih and every thing was fine. My question is: is it possible the vacuum switch is not engaging the front axle properly or did the previous owner put a locker in the front axle. I have owned several other 4-wheel drive trucks and I have never had one act this way. A Ford ranger, when it failed to lock in the front axle it would just free spin. And that was a vacuum controlled system also. Sorry for the long question.

Real possible the front axle shift mechanism/vacuum actuating mechanism is haywire. This is the best solution.
