OBD CODE HELP!
I have a 96 Cherokee Country. Check engine light came on but is running great. I read you can read the codes by turning the ignition on off, etc. Reading the blinking MIL, I got the numbers 127256. Any help with that woudl be greatly appreciated because that number does not coorelate with any of the codes I have in front of me.

most places will charge u to check the codes. if its a obd2 system u can go to autzone and rent a obd2 scanner for free u just pay for it and when u bring it back they give u ur money back. u can do that or aamco and sometimes they will check them for free. pep boys sometimes to. just check around u should find somewhere that will check if for free or like $20. good luck
I can tell you right now youre not reading it right.
If you have a camera, do the key trick and upload it to youtube or whatever. That way we can look at it and see what the code really is.
You could try autozone too, they will read the code for you.

Thats your mileage. Ha. Turn the key ON OFF ON OFF ON within 5 seconds. Leave key on and wait. It takes a second. I believe the begin test number is 12, ignore that, the end code is 55, ignore that. The numbers you get in between are the ones you have to worry about.
sorry i just read the entire post. i think you're reading it wrong. Are you sure its not 127255. That would make sense 12 is start 55 is end. Your code is 72. Double check, but if i remember correctly it refers to downstream 02, thats the one on the cat
new development with the jeep. Today the GEN light came on, so ill need to change the aternator. I could tell when I drove it that the batt was low and got worse when I turned things on. as far as the code goes...this is a site that I went by to try and find out what was wrong with it. 72 is something that I dont understand.
Also, would the check engine light come on for the alternator for any reason? could that be my problem?
here is the code site:
