Default o2 sensor

So now another problem. My xj just threw a po132 code its the o2 sensor bank 1 I cleared the ck engine light with a computer and it hasn't come back on and I hope it doesn't but well c. I guess what I need to know is what can cause it to come on and what other problems will it cause and I know my cat is shot will that cause those too.

Replace that o2 sensor with an NTK oxygen sensor off rockauto.com. If it has gone bad, you may see a tougher idle and a drop in gas mileage. I wouldn't think a bad cat would cause the upstream o2 sensor to go

When you say rough idle, would that also create surging? every now and then it bogs down almost then revs back up. this is only when i have it past 1/4 throttle, but not floored. if i floor it goes as normal and the problem seems to go away. it normally only happens about .2 miles after first starting. I also seem to be getting about 12 mpg.

I probably should replace that o2 sensor sometime soon anyway and see if it improves things.

I've got a similar issue with it bogging down... CEL came on and I replaced the front o2 sensor the other day (after-cat o2 sensor was replaced last month, plugs/wires three months ago) but its still doing the same rough idle and at lower rpms. When its at higher rpms it seems fine.

Does the onboard cpu need to reset itself after o2 sensor?? CEL was on then went away when new o2 sensor was installed.

How many miles ago did you clear the codes?? Doesn't it take 60-80 miles or so before the come back on?

Yeah, the shop I go to was cool enough to clear that same code for me when I was trying to get emissions done. The CEL had been coming on and off with that o2 sensor code, depending on what kind of mood it was in. The shop said drive it 60 miles and come back, if the light goes away they'll pass it. I ended up just ordering the part and replacing it anyway. Getting mine loose was a pain in the A$$ though... ended up taking it to a small local gas station nearby and paid the guy $40 to lift the jeep and loosen the sensor.

No I've seen it take a week before the CEL came back on, sometimes it's 2-5 cycle's sometimes more.

It will take a little time for it to re-learn when things are replace or the ECU is reset.

Well if the o2 sensor is bad it will come back on sooner or later, plus the code is stored. With a bad cat you will not run right, use more gas and have other problems.Plus it will sometime most likely throw that code. Both will prevent you from passing inspection if the codes are present.

yes. before i changed my o2 sensor it would surge at every stop, bog down at the point of almost stalling, and throw codes. if your not sure disconnect your 02 sensor and run it like that. i tried it and every problem went away..seriously.if your problemspersist after you ran your jeep with the 02 disc. then its most likely not your o2.

also the first o2 i bought was from some crappy autoparts store, so be real careful because your oxygen sensor can come messed up.mine did and i had to buy another one from autozone, and so far im not having any problems.
