Well there's your problem.

I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done with it, hence why I did as much as I could to avoid levering on it. Good luck!

Yeah, the thing just about exploded.

At any rate, I had picked up a knockoff for about 44.95. It works. See how long.

Interestingly, some posters noted that the trans needed to be in neutral during installation. Turns out when I had it in park couldn't get neutral to work right. Tried adjusting while the trans was in neutral and got it easily adjusted. Don't know why that worked. Shouldn't have made a difference, but hey ain't gonna argue with success.

IIRC when I took mine apart to clean it, the contacts when in Neutral were a lot shorter than Park. So if N lined up, the rest would line up but if P lined up, it could be too far forward or backwards and miss the N contacts.

I also think I used my now functioning reverse lights and a helper to get it in position by turning it eitherway until the lights when out and setting it central.

That's a great idea. I had a staff of "one" so I was up and down a few times.

Had a P1899 code. Think the computer knew I was doing this?

Yep! Used the old cable cause I was thinking of wiring up the backup lights while I waited for the new NSS.

Wouldn't THAT confuse people coming up from behind on the motorway!

Something reflective behind the Jeep to see the backup lights from underneath works well.
