I just bought an NP231 out of an 1998 XJ to go into my 1999 which currently has the np242. My question/concern is that is there some sort of seal between the transfer case and transmission that i need to replace when i go to install the NP231? or any other issues that i might come across?
Also the reason i am swapping the np242 case out is because i just put a new chain in it about 3-4 months ago and its already slipping so im sure its something more than just the chain.
Thanks.

You have the trans output seal and the transfer input seal.. thats it. If nothing is leaking now i'd suspoect your trans output is fine. If it leaks when you install the 231 it's probably a bad 231 input seal.
