Default NP242 no "Fulltime"

Awhile back i was chasing a bearing noise.. so i decided to rebuild my 242.

I reassembled it and had no fulltime function.. like it's in neutral. Tore it down and reassembled half dozen times attempting to get it right.

Last weekend i put the Jeep on jackstands.. no front driveshaft. Disconnected the linkage to eliminate it being the problem and manually shifted in each gear. I have power to rear axle in all but fulltime and neutral.

Picked up another 242, disassembled it to compare every single piece to eliminate improper reassembly. I assembled mine correctly.

Can anyone think of why i'd have all gears except fulltime? The differential in my transfer seems smoother and as tight as the second 242's... but i havent swapped it.

Last time i can remember using the fulltime option was in heavy snow a few years ago. Obviously i'm not 100% it was working when i disassembled it. But what component would stop it from functioning?

Swapped in the differential from a donor 242.. made no difference. Still no fulltime function.

Anyone got any ideas? Google searching has yielded nothing, cant find a thread where someone had the same issue.

Yes, verified by going through the positions from lever on TC with linkage disconnected as mentioned in original post.

I agree, check your linkage arm. I had a problem getting mine into fulltime a while back and it turned out all I needed to di was adjust the linkage.
