Take it easy on that little D30 up front. It's not designed to move the entire jeep on it's own. It will....for a while.

Thanks Dave, I will - I've read people saying it will stretch the chain and others say it's just fine; my plan is to drive it 5 miles to and from my mechanic so I can be sure everything is right so far and so he can weld a few things for me. Then it's back into the garage until the rear end is done!

Yeah, I would like to put "how to discover that driving your XJ with different gear ratios in the front/back is a poor decision" close to the top of things I NEVER want to experience.
It would almost be fun to try on a junker just because......
So the rear is the stock 3.07s because AX15......front is 4.88. That would be a nasty tug of war, wouldn't it?? So who would win.....low-pinion D30 with 4.88s or 8.25 with 3.07s, both open diffs? Again I have NO intention of finding out
In other news, just installed an Azzy's linkage - shifts STRONG. If that stock linkage isn't the jankiest, I don't know what is...

Just to throw a wrench into the works. I had an acquaintance that raced a Bronco that had a higher ratio D44 in the front than the 9" rear. He actually did quite well as long as he was racing in mud. Took it down and raced SCORE and took a 3rd. Not bad for a low buck rig among the sponsored stuff

Clair was one of a kind. Sadly he was killed in a classic Ford vs Chevy argument in a local tavern. Thing is, he had the bragging rights
