Need emergency 231 sye help.
I just recently installed a Rugged Ridge SYE on my 231. I followed the directions and put it all back together. Now it won't shift into 2wd nor will the Jeep move in 4hi or 4lo. It also makes a grinding-ish sounding noise when I shift my transmission from any gear into park. I'm confused as to why all this is happening. I just need help trying to figure out why all of this is going on. This is my daily driver and I'm tired of having someone else drive me around. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
Info:
*4.0 I6 engine
*AW4 auto tranny
*NP231J transfer case
*Rugged Ridge SYE
P.S. I had to cut the shift fork rod down, but that shouldn't be the problem, it's not hitting the output housing.

I left it in and just pulled the rear half.
I thought that might have been the problem, but I saw a picture of one still on the old shaft on some other forum and I put back in the same way.
The main gear is the one on the big shift fork right?
I bought the SYE from you SeriousOffroad, besides this, I didn't have any problems with it.

It's not just my kit, it's most of them, even the Advanced Adapters kit makes you cut it. It's just too long on older NP231 cases.

All early model 2311's have to have the rod cut.
matt0106,
Tear it down and start fresh.
In case you need another copy....

If you installed them on later year XJs, then that is why. The later years didn't have the vacuum actuated front axle, so the shift fork rod was made shorter.
Any photos of any sort would help very much. Especially of how all the gears and hubs and whatnots should be on the new shaft. And any pictures of how the hub that goes into the shift fork should be positioned. Thanks.

best way is to take it all back apart and start over. when i did mine i didnt get the first snap ring on good enough and it slid off. ran into the issue of not able to change my t case into 2h-h4,4l.

Don't you have to leave it in 4lo when you do this. Any chance the OP had the lever wrong or he put it into 4lo when it was apart. Just saying

I'm pretty sure I put it in 4lo before taking it apart. Could I just manually shift the transfer case into 2wd or 4lo with the lever on the outside?
