not starting first try
i got a 88 jeep cherokee. I had to make it a push button start because the ignition stopped working cause its the wrong steering column. when i go to start it., it does start right away. It takes a couple of trys. not sure why.. any ideas?

Probably fuel pressure dropping off. Cycle the key on-off a couple times, then crank. If it starts first try that confirms it.
If it gets worse by doing that then something is leaking gas into the engine. Possibly a bad injector, more likely a bad fuel pressure regulator.
