Default not the starter than what?

anytime I start the vehicle up it will start in turn over but then it immediately cuts off. But when I started a second time immediately after it starts and runs fine what could this be. Could it be a sensor going bad or something?

Runs fine for however long?

Got any leaks around the fuel rail? Ever cleaned the throttle body?

Runs fine after that does not stop. I have no leaks that I can see but I did just put seafoum in the gas tank so it may just be some gunk that has cone off of that. Or I could be getting a vacuum lock some were in the line. I had that problem with my wrangler when I had it.

Hi had this friend with his engine doing same. after a bit of head scratching, I noticed that when he would start it, the Hot air tube that sucks air from around the exhaust manifold (when engine is cold) was collapsing every time the jeep would start and starve the engine of air. Took the culprit tubing off and it worked fine after that. I don't know what year they took the tube off but its totally useless anyway.

Here's something else to try: Prime the fuel system before starting.
Turn key to ON, wait a few seconds until fuel pump stops running, key back to OFF.
Repeat.
Now try starting.
If that fixes it, you have a bad checkvalve allowing fuel to drain back out of the rail.

I think a bad check valve would most likely take longer to start but it would stay started.

But I could be wrong....

That's the problem with troubleshooting sight unseen, we could all be wrong (or right, lol). It doesn't make perfect sense I agree, but thought it'd be worth a few seconds test time.
Often when the Renix fire up with the key in 'start' then die when the key returns to 'on', the ballast resistor is shot, but that doesn't make sense if it starts and stays on the second try. Sticking start relay, bad ignition switch....all we can do is guess.

I think it may be the butterfly valve in the throttle body. I looked up some stuff on youtube and there was a guy who had the same problem and after clean the deposits the butterfly valve works fine I think that may be the problem.

The idle is controlled by the air bypass valve. He may have cleaned both at the same time. It's often the cause for idle problems. Usually high idle speed.

If it were the hot air tube starving it of air then it wouldn't start at all...?

And that wouldn't explain the starting on 2nd attempt as the valve would still be in "cold start" position...

Well went to my local advance auto and talk guy that pretty much knows ever thing. It is eather a sensor or something to do with the distributor. I checked the fuel injection system and it was fine so the hunt continues
