Default not normal renix issue

ok so checked threads cant find nothing,
i have an 88 renix that was rebuilt 2 years ago then sat because freeze plugs went bad.
anyway it wont fire without ether, and sometimes it will fire up then shut right off without the ether.
when it starts it runs crappy and wants to die and if its put in gear with the pedal to the floor it does about 2mph then will die out
the coil is brand new along with the plugs, wires, fuel pump, and filter
usually i know my jeep stuff but this has me stumped

i had something somewhat similar happen. my ballast resistor was unplugged. the truck would start but just die instantly. the resistor is located on the driver side fender.

that resistor lowers voltage to the fuel pump to help the pump run cooler. it is bypassed during startup and at full throttle. one of the relays near the battery controls it. if you pull the relay and jump the connectors, you can get the pump to run continuously. or put a DVOM on your resistor and make sure its not open.

It could be the reason for the crappy idle. Also, it might be your IAC.

Default After you clean your IAC

After cleaning your IAC you may want to fiddle a bit with your TPS or throttle position sensor..its the IAC's neighbor there on the throttle body.

define crappy idle. could be time to pull the egr valve and clean it out along with the IAC motor. i would also check all the vacuum lines to make sure you don't have a leak anywhere. take a look at the throttle body and make sure its not to dirty. have you checked the adjustment of your TPS? that being out could cause a "crappy" idle. also should check the coolant temp sensor. the one in the block, not the head. if it is sending the wrong info, you could be getting the wrong amount of fuel. time to spend some time with a DVOM and your jeep.
