I live in Ireland so very little need for aircon, however I would like to switch the fan to bi-level, which on my Jeep means switching the aircon on.
I realise that the US and UK spec cherokees are different but assume the aircon system is the same.
Anyway, the system is out of gas and I'm not bothered about filling it seeing as we get about 3 warm days a year and I prefer to crack a window anyway. However I'm worried that if I slide the lever to the bi-level function, activating aircon then it might cease something up because theres no refrigerant and therefore no lubricant in there.
Mate of mine says it'll be fine because the system should not activate with no gas in there and therefore the clutch won't engage, but I just wanted to check with you guys.
Sorry if this is a silly/confusing question, I know nothing about aircon systems. Just want to have heat in the cabin and on my feet during the winter lol. Also is there a way I can check if the clutch is free/isn't engaging without pulling the serpentine?
Thanks in advance
Craig

altho. im not sure if running bilevel with the heat still engages the air conditioning. i have no loss in gass milage or power when the heat is up and on. i dont think it would hurt.
i hope this answers your question. im not sure if i did understand it right.

Do you know why the compressor comes on when you are wanting heat ?
It warms the engine up faster.. the condensor gets hot.. heats radiator and you get heat faster..

I have never used my AC, I just flip the wing windows completely around. And I get more air movement, dirt, and bugs. Then I could ever want, It also keeps the ash tray clean.
