Default Nonfunctional Blinker (Different thread for different issue)

I know there is a very similar thread going on about this, but the issue is a bit different so I thought I'd respect JeepLover's thread and not hyjack it. If the advice is the same I'll read it there or you can repost. THanks.

I just picked up an XJ with a bit of front end damage (see pic). When I got it, none of the lights worked from this cluster. When I put the directional on, however, it would get the rapid click blinker. Once I got it home, I replced the bulbs slathered in dialectric grease and was able to get those lights to flash normally with the hazards on. Unfortunately, when I just do the blinker, I still get rapid fire blink and I'm not sure why. I'm not sure if this is a factor, but the headlight on that side is out and needs to be replaced. Also, I checked the rear lights and they work fine.

Thanks for the help all,
s

I know I'm jsut a bumbling idiot, but I dont' understand. I've replaced both the marker and directional (blinker) bulbs. Is there something I'm not understanding.

He's referring to the Flasher Solenoid/Relay....it's what "clicks" when the signal blinks.

On the 97+'s they're behind the kick panel that's under the steering wheel....I don't know if they're in the same spot on the previous generation. You could turn the signal on, listen for the click, and follow the noise.

A new flasher won't cost more than a couple of bucks at your favorite auto parts store.

Yup sounds like the flasher, I had to change mine not long after I bought my Jeep. Easy to get to and a cheap fix. Behind the metal shroud underneath the kick panel underneath the steering wheel.

I have the same problem on my '99. Right front. Have changed the bulbs repeatedly to no avail.

If the bulbs all the way around on all four corners are fine then its the flasher relay otherwise the flasher relay is clicking fast because there is a short in the line, which is a bad bulb. On some rigs the blinker sticks on on the bad side. Most likely a flasher relay, and there cheap which is a good thing!

x2 its most def ur flasher relay if all the bulbs are good. im not sure about jeeps but on fords there is 2 flasher relays. i replaced one on my bronco and it didnt fix the problem. after some i found out there was another relay hiding behind the fuse panel. that one fixed the problem. im pretty new to the jeep thing so im not sure if thats the case
