Question Noise from Right Front on Rough Roads

I've been hearing noise from the right front when traveling on rough roads, particularly wash-board roads. So far I've checked the RF shock, the lower and upper control arm bushings. All seem tight and not the likely cause.

Also, the upper and lower steering knuckles look perfect. When I replaced the disc pads a few months ago everything was tight. The XJ handles and steers perfectly on the highway. It is just the RF noise?

What else should be looking at?

Well, what does it sound like? A bag of cats or a square wheel?

idk if you checked em or not but you didn't mention ball joints or sway bar (either the end links or mount bushings). Of course if it sounds like a bag of cats, it's probably neither of those things. lol

It can be a lot of thing. But it you say the control arm bushing are fine you need to check the axle u-joints and wheel bearings, tie rod ends and everything else in the front end. Keep us updated on what you find.

Had one in the same are, right front, that seemed to be a bad tie rod at first but actually was made acceptable for now ( until the new replacement arrives ) by just making sure the right side was snugged back down. ( obviously wear had made it loose, therefore the planned replacement)

my front end clunks, its the sway bar bushings on mine, I had someone stand in the door, grab the roof rack and rock the jeep side to side while I looked at shock, sway bar and all other bushings. and springs.. found bad bushings, shocks are in questions too. you can get alot of swaying back and forth while having someone do this and it will show wear in rubber bushings you wont see with the jeep just sitting there. better than bouncing it one corner at a time by pushing on bumper too. serious rockin goin on if you get a good volunteer. I thought my jeep was gonna roll over he was havin fun. ya , roof rack is still attached to the roof too. roof aint but the rack is. lol

Get under it anything with a grease fitting lube it and see if the sound goes away.

Make sure the spring hold down is holding the spring in place.

Could just be a bad shock letting everything bang around.

A worn sagging trans mount can place the exhaust pipe close to the cross member and can cause a thumping.

I had a similar problem, right front "clunking" noise. check your panhard rod bushing at the axle connection. The panhard rod connects the front axle to the body right in front the of the right passenger and keeps the axles from moving right to left.
