1997 jeep Cherokee sport. Replaced starter, battery fully charged, new cylinder key on the dash. Anyone have any tips? I turn the key but it won't start. I started the jeep in neutral but no luck.

We need a little more info. Like, when you turn the key does it crank but no start or does it do nothing at all when you turn the key? If it does crank but no start. You need to see what's missing, spark or fuel. Also have you checked it for any stored codes?

I have no way of checking for codes. If I turn the key to on there's no crank. Only the lights in the dash come on. I tried the bypass method by jumping the new starter directly from the battery to starter with the key in the on position and on neutral gear. All I could hear was the starter spinning.

What does the battery voltage drop to when you try to crank the engine over?

I have no way of checking. Only gauge I got is the one on the dash.

Then you really don't know if the battery is fully charged.

I took it to autozone to get it tested. They told me it was fully charged. It's less than a year old.

Did the do a static voltage test (worthless), or a load test?

Not sure. They put one of those portable voltage machines on it.

I just had a problem with my 89 cherokee and I found out it was the neutural saftey switch. Mine wasn't engaging the starter at all so I got a nss and it worked. So it now starts with the key.

It's gotta be plugged in I do believe. Otherwise the vehicle thinks it's in drive so it won't start

That's what mine looked like
