Default No sound from speakers

I own a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. A few weeks ago, I heard loud crackling when I had the radio on. This lasted for about a week when my speakers cut out and I smelled something burning. I get no sound from the speakers any longer. I didn't have the volume turned up loud and never do. The stereo turns on and I can operate it, but still no sound. I have an after market stereo. The burning smell makes me think I have a short in the wiring somewhere. I checked the fuse and it seems fine. I have no experience working with anything electrical, but I do not want to take it to a shop. Any ideas?

A persons normal reaction would be somewhat alarmed/concerned about the "burning smell" at least to the point where they would stop driving and find out what is wrong. The fact that all the fuses are "good" should be yet another red flag. You should probably have this vehicle towed to a repair shop before you need the services of the local fire department.

I only smelled the burning right after the speakers cut out. I haven't smelled any burning since. I doubt my jeep is going to blow up. I am pretty sure a wire went bad and needs to be replaced.

OMG are you serious? LMAO

Nah man, chill out and just pull the radio out and check the following color wires; white, green, purple, and grey solid and w/black line. see if they are not touching any metal.

If you smell the burn from the unit, then your radios output is blown.

After you pull it out check to see if you have RCA'S in the back of the unit.

You can add an amp and use the RCA'S instead of the harness wires.
