ive got a 96 XJ 4.0 I am getting absolutely no power to starter. Ive had starter checked, battery tested, reran the power line to the starter. replaced starter relay.

Basically went to lunch thursday in it. Ran fine. Parked it and then when i went to leave work it wouldnt start at all.

 

You sure its not the starter going out? That's how mine was..started, went to lunch came back out to go home and no start.. Had someone start it while I tapped on it with a crescent and it started right up

 

The starter is less than 6 months old. I replaced it when i had a no start/no spark issue before.

 

Check your grounds? Did you check power at the starter? Could be ignition switch or a sticky relay

 

Ill recheck all of my grounds just to make sure. Ive replaced the starter relay. I have not checked power at the starter.

 

check power to the starter. you can also try jumping the leads with a screwdriver with key on to run or off to see if starter spins.

if that checks out, it could be your neutral (start) safety switch (NSS) for short.
with key on and jeep in reverse (parking brake applied if working or wheels blocked), check to see if reverse lights work. this would be related to nss.

also check your battery cables for corrosion (bulges in casing) or bare green corroded wires.

 

Jumped terminals on starter. it sparked but did not spin the starter. Also no reverse lights. Wires on the battery are good. I replaced the positive the other day after this issue started.

 

was a loose terminal on the starter.
