No power to radio?
My son has a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and his stock radio stopped working. So we got him a new stereo (a pioneer), and had it installed.. it worked fine at first... no problems, then it started acting up.. shutting off periodically.. and now he gets no power to it at all.. wont do anything. We took his car back into the person who installed it (Best Buy) and he did some checking around on it... apparently right before the radio, it should be drawing 12 volts, and it's only drawing 5 volts, so not enough power getting into the radio to power it up... stereo and module checked out fine... fuses check out good...
Anybody else have this problem, and were you able to fix it? What did you do?

Hi Lyon1969. I am experiencing a very similar problem. I have a 2000 Cherokee XJ. My radio is only drawing about 7 Volts. when I turn the key to ON. My fuses are all intact. The lights on my radio turn on and off over and over and the dome light pulses with the radio. I tested the power wires for the radio and I get about 11.5 volts when the key is off. Only when I turn the key on the voltage drops and my back down lights come on when I turn the key on also. I have all of the wiring diagrams. Actually I have the huge 25lbs Chrysler Manual for this jeep. That manual is priceless!!!! So I've traced all the wires and I can't find any breaks or chafed wires touching metal or other wires. As for the grounds, I can't lay eyes on that pesky G108 that is supposedly under the driver side dash. Anyone have a picture?
Easy fix would be to run a power wire straight to the radio as mentioned above, and ground to metal of course. Can someone give a little more detail? For example, should I attached a wire directly to the positive on the battery? How do I run that wire into the cabin. I could figure it out I'm sure, just taking a break....I just finished removing my junction box to check for corrosion behind it. I was afraid of what I might find back there. The back of my junction box was clean as a whistle! Anyone here ever remove that sucker? That was not fun. But satisfying once it was out on the bench.
Could a bad ignition switch or ignition lock cylinder cause this Radio/Dome light problem? They're fairly cheap and easy to replace but I'm chasing this gremlin all over.
Thanks!!!
