I want to buy a 1997 country 10 hours away with no overdrive. Can I make it home?

Yep. IF there's nothing else wrong with the trans.

No overdrive as in not shifting into 4th gear, or the torque converter not locking up (which many folks incorrectly call overdrive)? T/C not locking up will make it run a little on the hot side and get poor mileage, but you'd probably be okay. If it's the t/c not locking up, I'd check the switch at the brake pedal as that's an oft overlooked cause and real easy to fix. That switch tells the trans computer to unlock the t/c when you hit the brakes.

Less fuel mileage I doubt. I ran to Rochester and back at 70 mph without the converter locked up and got 27 mpg! That's the most I EVER got with a 4.0.

It’s def the silinoid for overdrive. Will I burn up the trans running in 3rd for hours?

I'd be more concerned about the engine unless you keep it at or under 3000 rpm.

If it's got the AW4 box in it, unless solenoid #2 is stuck in the on position (which would mean no 1st), it's not a solenoid issue. OD is obtained with both solenoids off.

Yes, my guess would be that the torque converter lockup solenoid is bad, so it goes into OD but the converter never locks.

I think your right. Drove it home fine. Only 2500 rpm at 70mph but rpms would bounce at 60 mph.

Next question.
I don’t want to lift and see everyone say 235/75r15 is max tire on stock. Question is will those still work if I add 1.5 inch spacers?
