Default No Bus tried everything

Hi I have the no bus issue gauges don't work on 99 Cherokee.
The vehicle runs fine so it should be a loose connection. I tried jiggling wires I swapped clusters and I even soldered in a new plug because I read about them failing. Still nothing. All the dome lights and radio etc Work fine just no gauges. I soldered and shrink wrapped new connector and wrapped each wire in tape. Not sure what else I can do.
Anyone else have a different fix? Thanks

Check/replace #9 fuse in the Junction Block (see diagram below).

Where did you get those new connectors? Part if the TSB to replace them?

Often, no bus issue are attributed to poor grounds in the engine bay. You may want to disassemble and clean each essential ground using Scotch-Brite pads or 400 grit sandpaper and see if it helps.

Go here and view the grounds.

FWIW, I was pulling my hair out over a No Bus error on my 2000 XJ. It got to the point where my gauges weren't working more often than they were. Checked all fuses. Cleaned all grounds. Pulled the gauge cluster, cleaned the connectors and applied dielectric grease. Still had the problem.

Through sheer happenstance I happen to drive my XJ a few days with the gauges working and never getting a No Bus error. What was the difference? I didn't turn the radio on.

At some point, someone installed a cheap, aftermarket radio/CD Player from a junk yard. (It has junk yard markings on it.) That stupid thing has a short in it somewhere and was causing my No Bus error.

So, if you have a cheap radio/CD player installed, that's a suspect. If it was poorly installed, that's a suspect. Try driving with the radio turned off. If you still get a No Bus error, disconnect the power to your radio or pull the radio fuse and see if that makes a difference. Can't hurt to try it.

Hi I hate to say it but I had this same problem. I disconnected everything, removed all fuses and relays except what was needed to run checked all grounds and still nothing. then a friend brought over a PCM from a similar vehicle we plugged it in and it started right up. it ran like crap and the check engine light came on but it started so I knew I was going in the right direction and the PCM was no good. after getting a new one from the dealer I had to use the snapon red brick to put in the vin #.

I had the same problem with my 1998, it got so bad my guages would drop a few times a day. I suspected a bad connection as I could get them to come back by hitting the dash. Interestingly enough, I had a CPS failure which never happened before. It was thermal failure, as it started back up after sitting for 20 minutes. When I replaced the CPS the problem went away. I've been driving everyday for 4 months now without the gauges dropping out. Coincidence? I don't know. I'm certainly not telling you to replace working parts, more so just wondering if there could be a link?

I read the airbag module goes bad under seat and causes no bus message dealer recall for safety. Doesn't hurt to have them check vin and c if it been replaced.

I dont think its the cps because it runs good. Radio is stock but has no antenna. It all was working though when I got it running. Its possible the airbag module thing could cause it it had grand Cherokee leather seats in it wired up and I swapped them out I may not have reconnected that ground properly.
