No bump stops on my xj...help...***PICS***
So I bought my jeep in October it was completely stock, and since then I've installed a 3" Rough Country lift, with new shocks but my jeep doesn't have any bump stops, and didn't have any when I bought it...there is literally nothing there!
I've heard that it is bad for the shocks if you don't have bump stops but the remaining old bump stops are still stuck up there...and it seems impossible to get them out. What is the best way on getting them out and how bad would it be if I just left them the way they are?
Thanks!

shouldnt hurt them if they're the proper length shocks. Are they the stock shocks or did they come with the Rough Country lift? Bump stops are there to keep your wheels from hitting your fenders or in other words to limit your uptravel.

And if they are the stock shocks, i'd start looking for new shocks. My stock shocks lasted a month on my jeep after 3" lift.. then i decided to play in it Needless to say that was the end of those shocks. When i pulled them off i literally was pushing them in and pulling them out with my hands, they had no resistance whatsoever lol

Find the most agressive thread screw you can and drive it into the bump stop and pull with some vise grips. You may want to heat them up with MAP gas or propane before hand. That will soften them up and make them easier to remove. You could even try a cork screw for a wine bottle.

The shocks are Rough Country that came with the kit so they are new.
But I will look into those methods of taking the remaining piece of the old bump stop out. Is it really bad to wheel without bump stops though?

It's not recommended. Call 4WD and get extended bump stops by daystar for like $28. After you install them take a jack and flex out one side and cut the bump stop to the height you need. I had to cut to the first line on mine. Just use a saw zall and cut a little at a time so you can remove each peice through the spring without having to remove the spring.
