Hello again, like I mention before I bought this Cherokee Sport 2001 this past December 1st 2011, The factory radio wasn't working the CD nor the FM, Yesterday I removed the radio cleaned the eye of the CD with a Q tip and now plays all types of CD's, then checked the antenna connection to be sure was connected and it was, checked the FM stations everything cool, after I put everything back together the FM stations don't work with the engine running, if I turn OFF the engine then the stations get signal.......do any of you know if there is a capacitor or something that should cause this? I really like to keep the Jeep completely stock, want to check out all possibilities before installing a new radio. Thanks in advance TURBO

Does it play CDs while the engine is running? I would pull the radio again and check the wiring...if it all looks stock and not tampered with and not frayed then it's probably an issue with the head unit itself. If there are wires that are spliced I would suggest trying to get it back to the stock wiring configuration. If you have any friends that are into cars at all I'm sure someone has a cd player laying around that the would let you use to diagnose your problem. All you would need is a wiring harness to fit your jeep which is only a few bucks and you'll probably end up using it in the future anyways.

I have a similar problem with my the radio in my '96 ZJ. Only AM works, no FM. If I put it on FM at full vol I can hear static but that is it. I have tape deck and since I have not owned a tape since JR High I can tell if it works or not.
I have an extra stereo so I went and bought an installation kit today. Hope to install it tomorrow. I will let you know if it works...if not I am guessing it will be something with the antenna.

Sorry to say but sounds to me like the head unit is shot. Like I said I would try borry one from a friend and hook it up or you can probably get a stocker from the yard for $10-20.
