I had recently toggled my switch to Power to see if there was a difference in the fuel consumption. Full tank on Comfort = 260-265 miles, Full tank on Power = 240 miles. It's worth the trade off in gas for me though as switching it to Power seems to have resolved a mysterious clunk noise that would occur when cruising at a single speed for about a mile (generally worse at 50 - 60 mph). With it switched to Power it hasn't made the clunk noise since!

I'm curious what size tires you have on yours? My city mpg went up by 0.5-1mpg when I started using the power setting, and I think it's because it helped spin my 30" tires better. I think people believe that the power setting is going to cause it to always rev very high as if you're always racing or something, but that's not the case. It does rev higher than the comfort setting, but it wasn't very noticeable under normal daily driving. When I got my foot into it, yes, you could tell it stayed in gear longer before shifting. It was a good thing that they discontinued the switch and permanently changed the shift points.
I have a 90 with the switch. I have done the fill up on a tank and run it on power and then fill up and run it on comfort. I found no difference in the milage at all. And if there was a difference it was like a 1/2 mile per gallon difference. Hope this helps....

FWIW, years past 91 were just wired directly to "power" setting.
i have also run both settings and found no difference in economy. with that said, i run power 100% of the time because it keeps the motor in my "ideal" power range when driving.

Thanks everyone. I have been experimenting with both, and Power does seem to be the engines ideal setting for the shifts. I only switch to comfort when Im on a back street and the speed limit is like 25 mph. Seems to all work out well.

that power/comfort switch is the old style Drive/overdrive switch, no you don't have a special high performance jeep tranny... its just an "A" typical tranny on an older jeep and instead of there being a shift setting with the shifter its just a simple switch to the right of your steering wheel below the dash gauges......
does that answer your question cuz yes it is dead on
