Sorry if this has been covered in an older post.......I admittedly know little about vehicle repair, but am a stubborn, do it yourselfer! This is likely an issue I'll have to "take in," but I want to have a solid idea from others who have experienced this situation before I do so.....

My '98 Cherokee 4.0L won't shift into the last gear.......I was told it could be the Torque Converter or the Speed Sensor? I runs fine through all gears except for the last one.......at 3,000 RPM I'm hitting about 80+ MPH. This would be fine if I never had to take the truck on the highway.

Any suggestions?

searc h adjusting the kick down cable i would try this first

 

Thanks, I tried this, and although it slightly improved the shifting, it did not resolve the lack of top gear. Does this sound like the speed sensor, or the torque converter?

 

Throttle position sensor still in play here. They can be tested.
