Default newbie drop pitman arm question

i have a '97 with a 5.5 rubicon express longarm kit on it and im about to uprgrade to 8" springs. i have a 3" drop pitman right now and the bumpsteer is horrible. i have not seen anything bigger than 3" and im guessing there is a reason for this. i dont have the money to go highsteer yet and im wondering what other options i may have?

Hydro boost is all I can think of but high steer is going to be the only thing to minimize that bumpsteer.

Is your trackbar mount dropped 3" as well? Bumpsteer is a result of the draglink and trackbar not being parallel. If you lower the trackbar 2", you have to lower the draglink 2" as well.

May i ask why you wish to go with 8" springs? that's TALL and will make the rig unstable in some ways. What size tires you running?

IMO 8" is too tall for an XJ, but mudd is right about the steering geometry. Parrallel is the way to eliminate bumpsteer.

the reason you have bumpsteer is because of the drop pitman arm. you need the tracbar parallel with the drag link so when the suspension cycles it cycles with the steering.

oh, and 8" is madddddd lift.

if you are running a tire big enough to necessitate that lift height you better have fullwidth 60's under there, even then its a little excessive

thank you all for the help. im still not sure how im gonna go about this. 8" may be too high for a cherokee that is going to be wheeling but mine is going to be my dd/tow vehicle pretty soon while i start messing with my ranger.

UUHHHH

a 8" lifted cherokee is probably the least ideal tow vehicle. hope you don't plan on towing anything more than a lawn mower

dont put 8" lift on an xj bra, just dont do it. theres no need for that much lift on an xj, if your going to tow anything lifting it isnt going to help at all not to mention its not really a great tow rig altogether. not saying you cant tow with an xj guys just saying, build it wheel it repeat, breaking only means time for upgrades.

8" of lift, are you compensating for something?

Lose the drop pitman arm, get some better steering, and don't lift it any higher.
