Default Newb 1st Cherokee major rust!

Okay so first of all I used to have a lowered car until the train station I parked it at got flooded. So they totaled that now I thought I will get a jeep for the upcoming winter and I thought I got a deal when I found a 1998 cherokee with 78k on it but now its looking like I got the shaft. The frame on the drivers side is horribly rusted is this even worth trying to fix? I have never grabbed a welder in my life but the way this is it's looking like that may change. I am also getting an evap error code I tightened the crap out of the gas cap im thinking maybe its the filler neck itself may have a vacuum leak? This is my first jeep so any help would be appreciated thanks in advance!

Okay. First of all these are unibody vehicles meaning the body is the frame. Second good luck finding a Cherokee without the floor pans rusted out. It is very common. I have to replace both side floor pans and have plenty of rust throughout the rest of the floor. They sell floor pans for both sides starting at about 50 bucks each. I would find someone around you with some experience doing this and see if they can help you.

Considering you live in NY thats really not too bad. The salt up there just kills the metal. GL fixing it though and its def fixable if you ask me.

Wow blacksmith nice job with that floor! Where in NY are you? Just looks like one of these days I am going to have to roll up my sleeves and get the unibody stiffeners and por15! Is there a site that has decent prices on parts? I am still having troubles tracking down the cause of the evap check engine code.

Thanks for the 2 cents should I just go to a local parts store(advance or autozone) or is there an online store with cheaper parts?

That is fixable, but you need to learn to weld. By the looks of it, that Jeep was in the same flood as your old car.

I just don't thing unibody stiffeners are unibody replacements. You need to fix the frame first, then consider stiffening it if you plan on wheeling it hard. I repaired my frame and floors and made the frame stronger than stock when I had it apart.
