Default New XJ, no windshield washer fluid system

Good evening everyone,

I just purchased a 1999 XJ Sport. Decent, clean title XJ, which is rare up here in Alaska. My third XJ I've owned. Biggest issue I've run in to so far, is it appears to have had the entire windshield wiper fluid system removed/deleted. There is a clipped green wire next to where the tank should be. Entire tank is also missing. This is a huge problem in in Alaskan winters. What do I need to find/purchase/pull from a junkyard to get this system operational again? Is that wire part of the system? Obviously need a new tank and pump. Anything else? Thanks in advance.

You can find the parts you need at a yard, ebay, and even the part outs here on the forum in the classifieds. Check the rest of the vehicle for the washer tube in case that was removed as well. Do the wipers themselves work? If so, thats one less worry to deal with. Not sure about that wire as mine is a 97, and the FSM doesnt show a DG/YL wire for the two pumps. because its not inside the loom with the other wires, im thinking its something a PO has done. The only DG/YL wire i can find for the wipers is the PARK SENSE for the wiper motor. But like said, mine is a 97.

I would expect the 97 and 99 setups to be the same. Perhaps use your 97 as a reference.

Yep,, We need our washers here in AK..

I had to get rid of mine when I cut my fenders.. I just made one.. Maybe you can do the same..

Get a washer motor from ebay
Find a jug to use,, booom!! washers again.

I used the internal gas tank out of a small outboard motor from a boat.
Drilled hole to fit motor..

The wires on mine are brown and black for the front motor.. 2000 xj

If i remember correctly the 98-01 had the side fender washer.

yeah it is vital up here. You’re correct about the location of the tank. I just have a big, empty hole there.

Look for two tubes behind the fender, and wires or connectors that are left hanging where the bottle would be. One tube runs to the cowl, for the front wipers. Another enters the firewall and snakes its way along the passenger side 1/4 panel to the liftgate.

Looking at your pic again, im wondering if it was in a light fender bender, and the bottle was damaged and never replaced. That could explain why its missing. That thin rectangular slot next to the fender looks crooked, and a bit bowed. Not sure why that wire was cut, tho. It couldve been for a manual toggle for the fan, but thats just a guess. My 97 had a toggle added by the PO, next to the PCM, but the factory wires where till used, which are solid blue and solid black. And thicker gauge. Out of curiousity, look for anything else that doesnt look quite right in that general area. For anything else you might need. Missing parts and cut wires...

Looking at it more closely, you're probably right about what happened. I didn't even notice bend until you pointed it out. I should just be able to remove the wheel and interior liner to access that right? I shouldn't have to pull the fender? Thanks for all your help.

Yep looks like them..

The wire taped to the hose is for the back washer motor. So that hose might also be for the back washer.
the connector with blue cap and brown/black wires is front motor.

I bought a tank, pumps, started building everything. Test ran it, seems to be working. The tank didn't come with the filler neck or fluid level sensors. Still looking for a couple more pieces to fully install it. I need the size of the attach bolts and something to cap the hole on the top. I found a picture of a fully built one and it looks like its a rubber plug. Anyone know the size of the bolts or where I can find the plug for the top?
