New tires P vs lt tire options help?? Please
Ive read so many tire threads on different forums and I really need some help.
I have stock cherokee and 16inch rims and I'm looking for tires. I know I either want bfgs at2 or general grabber at2 in tire size 235/70/16.
The generals p rated.
Bgf at2 are 37lbs a tire but load c.
I know the p rated is street tire and lighter and bfg is lt tire and heavier but does it make a difference going to a heavier tire? I don't do much wheeling as I'm highway but I do some wheeling from time to time. Weill it affect jeep going to a heavier tire. Now Im not to concerned about mpg. Its a jeep I get it, but I just don't want to lose 10mpg with these tires haha. I went to a tire place and they kept saying no lt on a jeep and I'm crazy. I just don't want to get a p rated tire and then decide to go wheeling and it pop lol but then again the price between both tires is 70 bucks difference .
Ugh so confused and need help. Thanks

IMO it depends on what you consider wheeling. I cant imagine you getting into anything too crazy with a stock cherokee on that tire size. If youre just driving down gravel or dirt roads or two tracks and nothing a normal vehicle couldnt make it through then I would get the P rated. They will be softer and ride more comfortable. The lower weight will also maintain good (relative) mpg and power. If you are doing any kind of wheeling over rocks or tree roots, anything that can give a good poke at all get the C rated tires.
If it were me I would get the road hazard coverage on the Generals. If you pop one dont tell em it was on a trail.

The LT has stiffer sidewall, mostly for towing purposes but the strength is useful for airing down and off roading.
You don't say what wheeling you do, but I'm guessing light trails and such, P tires should be fine.

It kinda depends on where you wheel.
I've got a stock XJ on 235/75/R15s and would NEVER run anything but LTs. But I wheel in the west and southwest where rocks and mesquite thorns shred P tires.
My pops just "upgraded" to a new JK with the stock P-rated Goodyear Wranglers. As soon as he even gets near mesquite he's changing a tire.
I like keeping things out of my sidewalls - we don't need no stinkin ride quality!
