new or re manufactured starter?
I need a starter. Is it better to buy a new one, or is re manufactured ok? I need to keep the cost down as much as possible. Any recommendations on where to buy a re-manufactured one online? Thanks.

There's nothing wrong with a reman starter. So long as it's from a trusted source. Most OEM and aftermarket starters for older vehicles are remans anyway.

I have the same tyc brand starter like the one your ordered from amazon, it's been on for more than a year and perfect!!
Just a heads up when removing the cable from the starter there is a red clip that you can hardly see that needs to be lifted up, ericthecarguy is the only one who talked about it and saved my a&* while trying to figure out why the plug won't come off. Even through he's working on a grand cherokee it was exactly the same in my XJ

Depends on the Jeep and your plans if you ask me. Might be selling it or just trying to keep in on the road? Reman. Plan on keeping the Jeep forever? New. Brand new Napa one for my '00. My goal it to be buried in her. LOL. Not cheap but did not care.

They are built pretty simple. The bushings or bearings are all the same in quality because they usually come from one supplier. The only major difference would be the quality of the brushes. They could be normal soft graphite, or copper impregnated graphite which does last a bit longer. A good quality rebuild with a warranty usually has the copper impregnated brushes. Just like brake shoes...

Theres a old school Alt/Starter shop run by this guy that does a great job.
Great price too.
Rather pay him than some box store
