Default New radio will only power temporarily

I was wondering if someone could chime in on this issue I'm having. I recently got a new radio to install in my 96 xj. When i first hooked it up with the harness, I was able to play cd's and listen to the radio. So I removed the harness and tried later in the day when i had the dash kit ready. I hooked up everything but now the radio will only come one for a few secs when i press the display button or when i eject a disc or load one in, it lights up but only for like 10 secs. I checked to see if i blew a fuse but the one in the headunit and in the fuse box seem fine. I just don't know what changed since i'm still using the same wiring harness when i first tried it along with the connections.

if you have checked all your fuses and the wiring for the radio and find nothing wrong, check your key switch. On my 97, there is a spot in the run position where if you wiggle the key, i lose power to my radio. the switch is worn inside, and has poor contact.

yea it might be the switch, my jeep was recently stolen and the ignition switch was one of the things that was replaced, maybe there's a defect on the new ignition switch. Any way of testing the switch out besides replacing it again?

is it possible to just somehow bypass the ignition switch and run the red wire from the radio somewhere else to see if the radio will play?
