Hi everyone Im new to the forum and need some opinions on tires. Right now i just have a regular boaring tire and i want to get a more agressive tire. 90% of my driving is city and highway and me and my freinds usualy hit the local power line trails and sand pits about once or twice a week and the mud is prety sketchy with my current tires.

Right now im looking at the BFG A/T's. Almost all of the reviews say they have excellent ware life, off road traction and decent mpg but are bad in snow and mud because of the tread pattern. I live in mass so snow is a factor and to get to any of the trails around here you have to go through mud. The local tire shop recomended the toyo at2 they seem good and are cheaper but has anyone had experiance with them? Or is thire a evan better tire out thire?

 

I would most definitely go with the toyo tires. They served me well when i had them on my xj, great offroad and on road tire. Been through some deep mud and snow, plowed right through it

Ive used many many brands, even the BFG all terrain (513 000km over 23 years on same truck)

So far, the best (by a long shot) all around and even in snow (I live in Canada) has been the cooper Discoverer STT. Even the noise level is negligible, They look very good (side grip) and in the mud, they will put swampers in their place..


It has lasted me the longest (cost the most) of all tires I have ever had and its the only tire I WILL buy again when I'm due for new ones.

 

I think value wise the MasterCraft M/Ts are great. Whole set of 31 10.50 15 cost me $647. They wore even and lasted for a long time. My same set are on a yota now. I put about 16K on them and he has put around the same on them. They still look at least 80% and even.

hankook dynapro m/t' are another good value tire and wear great.

 

hows the mpg and the highway shake on the coopers they look alot more agresive compaired to the A/T's

 

Coopers are great to, they will bring your mpg down by only a couple

 

The coopers are definatly a option now. Anyone else have the toyos the guy at the tire place seemed to realy like them over the BFG's

I know some people swear by them and others not so much. I see them around alot more than any other tire. But it seems like its just the brand name that people like.

 

Why not? I run the big ta lo 35's on my jeep...granted I live in VA and don't deal with copious amounts of mud, but aired down a little the do ok. So long as you aren't bogging lol. As far as DD it is my DD and the noise is a very nice low hum that you can hear if the radio is off, but it goes away with just about a conversational level of noise. Tread ware is nice, my last set lasted almost 4 years...just my 2c. Also they did fine in the snow, I never lost traction so long as I was a diligent driver and didn't try tearing down the road

Yeah, I got the 16" . Very thick and very strong. you can easily run then at 10 Psi without problems.
They are tough as nails in even the worse conditions.

Gas mileage? What's that? LOL

I cant be sure. I went from 31s to them. (metric size equal to 34") and changed to 4.10 gears. didn't see all that much of a change.

 

Agreed. for me, going back to BFGs would feel like a big step down instead of up.

 

I got General Grabbers, no issues at all, great on and offroad tires.

 

If it's worth doing it's worth over doing. I'm putting on Hercules mudlines that are 35s on my jeep
