Pop the cover and have a look-see. Lots of us, including myself, have had sports cars. Welcome..

Update: I finally got around to pulling the case off, turns out I have an LSD Dana 35. The gears looked fine, so i just cleaned it out, put some oil and friction modifier in and the noise went away! Thanks everyone for the replies. Here are some pics:

Looking at the photo of the carrier, is the visible difference between the limited slip and open the narrow ribs centered between the bolts holding the ring gear on? Mine has more of a continuous rib or just depressions where the bolts go so I think mine is open. Otherwise it looks much like the carrier in mine.

Congrats to the OP on getting the LSD with yours, I wish I had lucked out like that.

Oh and identifying by the covers, what year did they switch to the rubber plug and hex head nuts on a D35 from the screw in plug and torx style bolts? My 85 has those.

Limited slips are squared off on the right side like the one in the photo. Open diffs taper off to the right.

My guess is you have a limited slip thats starting to lock up around corners. I had a D35 with a stock locker True trac i think it was called had the up country suspention package on it. Anyway it started making a rubbing/whiling grinding noise around corners. I ended up just swapping in a 8.25 which i like alot better.

Lucky you having the LSD. I just changed the fluids in my diffs and transfer case and I have an open diff. Was really hoping for the the LSD.

Is this a sign of the clutch plates wearing out? Would it be better to rebuild or just replace it?
