New to this whole Jeep thing and have some ???'s... I have an 87 Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with a 4.0 and 181k miles on it.

1srt- when I opened my air filter box my air filter was covered in oil... so I got a new one and put in and checked it about a month later and it to was covered in oil.... Any ideas here..

2nd- My jeep has no get up and go.. its very slow and has no passing power.. max speed on the highway is about 65mph....

3rd- Will a set of wheels that are for a TJ fit on my Jeep?

Thanks

yes TJ wheels will fit. You have 5x4.5" bolt pattern. I'm guessing the oil covered filter is starving your jeep of much needed air and this is causing the lack of power. Did you have more power when you first installed the fresh filter? If it's a light coating of oil, forget what i said. If it's black as black can be and soaked, then maybe.

TRy this fix for the soaked oil filter. It is called "Blow By" This may help you out.

1 & 2 are probably related.
3- The answer is yes they are both 5 on 4.5" so they will fit each other.

Thanks for the tire info...

But why is the oil getting all over my air filter and how do I fix it? It is very black oil... and it did run a little better when I put the new filter in, but not much better....

When's the last time you did a tune-up on the jeep? (plugs/wires/dist. cap and rotor) Do you have any oil leaks that you can see around the valve cover or on the engine?

See the link I gave you in post #4 to see what is going on with your oil in the air filter issue. If this Jeep has been abused the first thig as Belto says is fresh fluids. Do a general inspection while under the hood. Look at the hoses and the belt. Spray it with Gunk engine degreaser to clean it up and see everything a little better.

Default Tune up

I have no idea when or if this Jeep has ever had a tune up, I just got it... Really my wife found it and bought it for $1000 and gave it to me... I havent done anything to it yet except drive it around in the mud a little. And I havent worked on a car in many many years... and when I did I wasnt very good at it anyways.... So I really do need all the help I can find, thanks to everyone for helping me out! I do think getting all of the fluids changed is a good starting place.

^^yes it is,, then you can go change some spark plugs, maybe wires, cap, rotor, coil, check your brakes, try putting in some fuel injector cleaner, a few times then do it regularly every oil change...

We will be here to answer your questions as they arise. Get the fluids changed and do the inspection. Clean it up and read the instructions on the Blow By and see if you can solve that problem. You may have everything solved then or you may need some more help. Either way we are here. When you get some time post up some pictures of your Jeep, include some under the hood shots to so we can see what you have to work with.

What is a good brand to go with for plugs and wires? or does it really matter?... What about fluids? normal, syn, combo, I rally have no idea.. This jeep will be both a daily driver and a weekend mudder..
