Thumbs up New to Jeeps

Hey there!

I just recently purchased my first Jeep, a 1997 Cherokee Sport. I'm under the impression it was a police/federal vehicle at some point, and I'm excited to get to wrenching.

Anyways, I have a few questions that I'd hope someone here would have an answer too.

First, what is this thing that I found. It was just chilling in the engine compartment like it had been removed and forgotten.

Second, what is this switch?

Thanks!

Not sure on the first item. The second one (switch) is a battery master disconnect switch (not factory) that is usually used to turn on or kill the main power feed.

The first one is a Throttle Position Sensor. They probably changed it out and just left the old one floating around in the engine bay.

Yeah, we have those on some of our fire engines.

Useful for vehicles that sit around a lot.

I might suggest that you get a Build Sheet on your XJ it will tell you a lot about it and jf it has a police package.

Those battery main kill switch's are a must on race cars for safety mounted on rear bumper.

Thanks for the help guys. I did have them replace the TPS as part of the buying agreement, so that makes sense. As far as a build sheet, how would one go about locating one?

EDIT: After some GoogleFu, found the place to submit a request. Here's what I seem to be working with:
