New ignition switch smoking???

New ignition switch smoking???

Ok, so I replaced the the ign. switch on my 96 XJ, piece of cake. Reconnect the battery and everything is working fine, until I go the crank position....smoke started coming out of the switch. There is also a what looks like a burnt spot on the old switch. Why would this happen in a matter of a couple days? What the heck do I do now?

check the wiring to the switch where it is burned

Where should I look? These are what they look like now.....the plug end that plugs into the switch. You can see the burned ends towards the bottom of the pic. Thanks for your help, also!

Gonna return the new switch for another one.....is possible to get a bad one?

Follow up?? Mine is doing the same thing. New switch and still no go.. Old switch smoked.. Literally and now nothing but the door buzzer and the halo light is on...

any resolves? my switch burnt up a while back so i installed a kill switch.... that way i turn the key off then kill the motor it also got my a insurance discount lol...
but i would still like to get my ignition switch in and workin
