Default new gaskets

Just picked up new felpro gaskets for my valve cover and oil pan. My question is they are both rubber gaskets,so do I need to use any kind of silicon with them?
Thanks

what year jeep?

i have an 87 xj

and as far as the oil pan you need a dab of RTV in the front where the block meets the timing cover and in the back two corners

not sure of the valve cover, maybe if there's a spot by the timing cover where it meats the head like below

by the way, just a suggestion.....while you got the oil pan off i reccomend to change out the rear main seal as well, even if its not leaking...they are commen to leak and its just a couple more steps after the pans off.....theres lots of write ups and videos

i found this to be very helpfull

Also. Try to avoid removing the oil pump. I had to on mine to get the oil pan all the way out. Then I found in order to get a new oil pump gasket I had to buy a new oil pump. Ooops

Hopefully I won't have to do that. Only reason I'm changing gaskets is because the wife is tired of my jeep marking it'd territory in the driveway.........lol

Understandable. All jeeps leak. But sometimes you can remedy that

4.0 L? On my '93 Laredo when I replaced the oil pan gasket (nice rubber one) It read to smear a little rtv in the front where the pan meets the timing cover and the 'corners' where the gasket is U-shaped for the crank. I put a 1/4 inch bead longways down the center of the gasket, then smeared it flat.. With the pan back on, you couldn't see any rtv. Hasn't leaked since
X2 on the rear main seal too.. Loosen the 4 bolts on the last two crank caps and the old seal will push out ez. A little dishsoap helps the new one slide in, and put a dab of rtv where the top seal meets the bottom one. Remember to torque the caps.. 80 ft/lbs.
