I got a complete cat and cat back from mudfrog. I paid 36 for a high flow cat. he offers 2 versions of h/f cats. the $59 cat is a 400 and the $36 is a 300 flow rate. The 300 is recomended for stock or mildly moddified motors ie headers and full exhaust.

It helped with mpgs but not much.maybe 1-2mpgs

i understand, i actually just went back and read them when it got locked...i should have began my first post differently, but this is the direction i wanted it to go in...anyway, im not real exhaust smart and all, but are his cats regular sized? like i'll be able to replace the pipe is there now and it fit back in the "stock" location and plug it in?

It's fine if you say your cat is mia and you'd like to find one or it's broke and you had to straight pipe it for now "which I've done" till it gets fixed.
But saying I wanna hollow my cat or straight pipe it for whatever performance gains could get a thread "Closed" or "Trashed" and warnings issued or further.

I see were you are coming from "Wanting to fix the issue and thats fine.

thank you, i didn't mean any harm...the reason i was asking about the performance gains is because i'm used to the mustang 5.0's and 90's f150's that dont run for crap without some sort of cat and exhaust to maintain backpressure, not trying to deliberately be illegal for performance gains

if you like the sound of it straight piped and are looking into buying a muffler that will make it sound good but quiet it down, i recommend the "super 40" series flowmaster muffler. i bought the muffler and tail pipe off of mud frog and im in love with the way it sounds. it still has the tone of it being straight-piped but its more quiet too.

Virtually the same thing. A high-flow catalytic media with a larger inlet/outlet stainless steel casing. Go ahead and order from mudfrog, because you also get a small discount!

Swap those around, the ceramic ($36) is 400 holes, the metallic ($59) is 300 holes. The metallic is a true high flow converter while the ceramic is high flow compared to OE. The holes in the 300 are larger which results in better flow, if your looking for loud run the 300 hole cat, I had to install a resonator after switching to this.

Comparing a ceramic MagnaFlow to the ceramic Thunderbolt, the bricks are the same. The only difference would be the shape and amount of precious metals used on the brick, we've actually had a higher success rate with the Thunderbolts, we sell about 10 Thunderbolts for every 1 Magnaflow and we've had less comebacks with the Thunderbolts as well. They are a great bang for the buck converter. Made in the USA as well

mudfrog, my 2000 XJ already had the catback Flowmaster 40 system on it when I got it. I love it, but it's sorta loud for a 50+ year old minister. ;-) My question: how do I know what will fit, and will the 400 give me at least a slightly better flow without adding to the volume? If I put on a header later will I have to change the whole system? Thanks. BTW, the motor is stock other than a CAI and the exhaust. Someday, a stroker...
