I've noticed the influx of brand new (Yes, I said "Brand New") AW4's on the market over the past year. All the vendors are selling Mopar Part# S-4810179 (with 30-43LE green stamp). According to Mopar that Part# fits 1994-1996 XJ 4.0L, 4X4.

Here's the confusion: The all knowlegable Novak says 30-43LE is the 2wd AW4 and the 40-30LE is the 4wd. Also, all of the companies (Quadratec, Oconee Offroad, Vintage Jeeps, etc) selling them say that it only fits the 2wd. 4810178 is the 4X2 Mopar part#.

My 97 XJ, 4.0L w/ NP231 says 30-43LE "Green Stamp".

I contacted Moses Ludel (Jeep Bible) and he was thrown for a loop on this Chrysler surplus and part# confusion too. (He's probably knows everything about all models of Jeep)

Did Chrysler/Jeep recieve a bunch of 2wd AW4's and convert them "in house" to 4wd and only changed their factory part#'s?
