I've been battling to find out what exactly is throwing the code. It's the only code that comes up. I've cleaned the NSS just to replace completely with a new unit later. Everything is functioning as it should- even the back-up lights (which was a blown fuse all along...). Granted, in the past I've noticed oddly high revs will idling. I did just adjust the TV cable and haven't noticed it over rev yet. But I do not daily drive this car anymore- it just sits in the garage without a renewed registration because it wont pass Illinois emissions with any code of any kind. Been in the garage for a year now. :/

What I suspect MAY have a slight possibility of having to do with the problem is my gear shifter. I have an automatic. I've read about others having issues with the shifter not aligning to it's proper home. When I park the car I have to push with some force until I here the *click* noise. It doesn't even seem it can make it all down 1/2. I know where the cable is under the driver's side but I'm not sure how to adjust it at the moment- or if it's even feasible. In the end, the gear shifter is massively annoying and needs to be addressed anyway.

Is it possible I should just drive it around for a week or so until it "cycles' enough to drop the code? My cheap bluetooth code reader can clear the code just for it to come back almost immediately.

I guess I'd like to know what I haven't thought of at this point. When I give up in my abilities, I'll drive to the dealer or indie shop with my tail between my legs.

Solve the gear selection problem first. That is mechanical. Inspect the bracket down below to ensure that it is not bent or misaligned in some obvious fashion. Have an assistant stand on the brakes and shift between gears while you watch the bracket and cable and ensure things are moving normally. You may find that the NSS code corrects itself once the transmission gear selection shaft is in the right position for each gear. My guess is that because of your gear selection being out of position, that the NSS is ending up in an "in-between" position where no gear selection is present (none of the contacts are closed inside the NSS, normally signaling to the computer which gear is selected). I'd bet when the computer sees a condition where -no- gear is selected, it throws a code (I don't know the exact code setting criteria off the top of my head, just using common sense to say that the the computer is probably going to want to see a gear selection from the NSS at all times - or else throw a code).

Thank's for the advice. I'm going to go at it this weekend to solve that problem and see what we come out with.

 

I took it all apart inside the cab and underneath the carriage and wasn't really sure what the hell I was doing. But after fiddling with it enough the code is gone. Noticed I tightened it up a little bit too. Well.. I'll take it!
