... gear oil, and some people use a gasket.. some people use silicon or RTV sealant...

I personally use a gasket... felpro typically.... make sure the surfaces are clean and some people don't think its necessary but i do a cross installation on the bolts when putting the cover back on.

the difference in the consistency of your gear oil has such little effect on your gas mileage that you would not be able to tell the difference... maybe... MAYBE fractions of a single mpg. It doesn't matter what you run if it be full synthetic or not full synthetic. As long as you keep up on fluid changes your gears will last just as long.

Is this what you use, how many are needed? seems expensive.

I use mobile 1 oil and ultra black RTV. Works great and keeps a solid seal.

Front takes 2.5 pints
Rear takes 4.8 pints (assuming you have an C8.25 rear end)

Any name brand 75W-90 will work.

If you have a Limited Slip Differential you will need to add 4-5 ounces of Friction Modifier in place of 4-5 ounces of gear oil.

I have to change my differential oil too, and might as well to t-case while I'm down there. I haven't done this since I picked my Jeep up last year. I have a D30/8.25 combo, with an Aussie in front. Will any name brand 75W-90 be fine for front and rear? Then what is recommended for the T-case? Dex III? And then how much would I need all together?

Cheers!

Synthetics are awesome! And yes, they do help a wee bit with mpgs.
