Default Neutral Safety Switch bypass???

Is there a way to bypass it? It's a 88 xj with a 4.0 and since I have owned it the neutral safety switch has been messed up, sometimes it will start or sometimes you have to wiggle the shifter to get it crank but I would just like to bypass it if possiable. Anybody know what color the wires are that I would be looking to twist together?

Dont bypass it, it's a very simple repair to fix this issue. You just have to be gentle tearing it down... then clean and relubricate.

Do a search on NSS cleaning and you'll find a ton of threads with info and links to write ups on this.

im having a no start problem, I am getting no spark from the coil. I have the same issue with my gear shift, I have to wiggle it. most of the time I have to put the truck in neatral to start it. could this be causing my no start problem. most people are suggesting the crankshaft position sensor.

If you have to wiggle the gear selector and it starts (sometimes) in neutral the NSS is the most likely cause. I bet your back up lights are screwy too (NSS).

NSS = Neutral Safety Switch. Stops jeep from starting in gear, also connects reverse lights.

NSS prevents the jeep from being started in gear, as well as other functions like turning on the reverse lights.

If there were a problem with the CKPS, the jeep would try to start, but not catch.
